Faculty Recruitment (SPS A1)

The SPS A1 project works to support the implementation of the new SPS A1 policy. As of July 1, 2020, the updated SPS A1 policy will implement a support model which seeks to surface and mitigate explicit or implicit biases in order to assess a candidate’s merit in a fair, equitable and transparent manner. The aim is to consider the university’s employment equity gaps in the active recruitment of self-identified women, persons with disabilities, First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, persons who are members of racialized communities [visible minorities], and LGBTQ+ identified persons in order to further academic excellence.

Outcomes

  • Attract the most diverse talent pool while achieving the most equitable and inclusive faculty hiring practices and decisions
  • Enhance culture of equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Mitigate unconscious bias in the Faculty recruitment process

Approach

  • Partner with Faculty stakeholders throughout the ideation, development, implementation and post implementation stages of the initiative to develop a common understanding and awareness of the updated recruitment and selection practices associated with SPS A1 policy
  • Identify and communicate specific areas of change within the SPS A1 policy that impact each set of stakeholder
  • Create an SPS A1 implementation support model that will facilitate a consistent approach to recruiting and selecting academic faculty while following a simple process for incorporating new work to the recruitment and selection process
